Protesting the direction of the country under President Donald Trump, people will gather Saturday in the nation’s capital and communities across the U.S. for “No Kings” demonstrations.
The Republican Party refers to these demonstrations as “Hate America” rallies. This is the third mass mobilization since Trump’s return to the White House and is expected to be the largest.
The protests come amidst a government shutdown, which has closed federal programs and services, and is testing the balance of power between the executive, Congress, and the courts.
Organizers warn that the actions of the aggressive executive are a slide toward American authoritarianism.
Trump is currently away from Washington, at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.
